He now shares the home dressing room with Scotland stars and is managed by one of the most experienced managers in Scottish football. Where he calls home serves as a Mecca to Scottish football fans.

It is certainly a long, long way away from Drumchapel Amateurs’ Glenhead Park on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

However, former Drum striker Hynes has completed an epic journey which has seen him move up from amateurs to sign for the country’s oldest club, Queen’s Park.

Having made his debut in last weekend’s 2-1 win over Arbroath, the 21-year-old admits it feels good to have finally made it.

He told SportScene: “I had the opportunity to go junior, Clydebank had shown a keen interest in signing me, as did Beith and Petershill but my manager told me to hang fire as he thought I could do better.

“He advised me to wait and see and eventually Queen’s Park came calling. I went into training with them for a few months and loved it.

“They then offered me a deal until the end of the season, which I obviously accepted.

“I’m delighted and I can’t wait to get going.” Rangers and Celtic go head to head at Hampden on Sunday, and Hynes admits sitting in the Hampden dressing room before the game, it is hard not to think of who else has graced his famed surroundings.

He added: “Obvioulsy last weekend was my first game at Hampden, but I loved every second.

“You’re sitting there thinking of all the famous players who have probably sat in the exact same spot as you.

“But you’ve got to enjoy it whilst it lasts, not everyone gets the chance to play at Hampden every week, some guys dream of playing there just once, never mind every weekend.” Queen’s Park are enjoying a successful season thus far, sitting in second spot behind league leaders Arbroath.

Boss Gus MacPherson has completely revamped last season’s squad which finished bottom of League Two. Hoards of signings from the junior and amateur ranks followed, with Clydebank’s very own Ciaran McElroy, Ross McPherson and Vinnie Berry making the move to Mount Florida in the summer.

And Hynes admits the former St Mirren gaffer has been a great influence since signing.

He said: “Gus has been different class, absolutely brilliant since I came through the door.”
