The move will give the Bankies a boost in a couple of positions with the versatile Verlaque able to play in his natural position of full back as well as in midfield.

Having already played for Morton, Queen’s Park and Dundee United, Verlaque will be a welcome addition to McGhie’s squad.

McGhie told SportScene: “David is still a young player but he showed up well when he was training with us, so we thought it was well worth doing.” The move comes as David McWilliams — a loan signing from Queen’s Park — gets set to return to Gus MacPherson’s side. The centre half was brought in by McGhie to provide defensive cover as the Bankies dealt with a number of injuries at the back.

Having performed well during his time at the club McWilliams is due to go back to the Spiders after this weekend’s game with Shettleston.

McGhie is keen to extend the deal but is yet to speak to MacPherson about it.
