The midfielder is in his second week at the club having signed from fellow Super League Premier side Kilbirnie Ladeside — and he insists that once he knew of Bankies interest his mind was made up.

He said: “Clydebank are a big club, well known within the juniors. I’ve known Budgie for a while so to sign with them was a no brainer.

“I had other Premier offers and about half a dozen from the division below but I don’t want to drop out the top division.” Barclay has also been impressed by Clydebank’s following when facing the club as an opposing player and that was also a motivation for him to choose the Bankies.

He said: “I’ve played against Clydebank over the last couple of years with Kilbirnie and they have a big support, the fanbase is very impressive.

“The professionalism that is around the club is brilliant. As soon as I met the boys at the first training session I didn’t think about going anywhere else, I’ve only had a couple of training sessions and it feels like I’ve been here a lot longer” Barclay’s arrival comes as a timely boost for Clydebank who are still searching for their first league win of the season after a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Shotts Bon Accord on Saturday.

However Barclay has seen enough from his new team mates to make him confident they can climb the table sooner rather than later.

He said: “At the moment from fourth place to us in 12th place there is only 10 points, a couple of wins will get us back in the mix. We are not far off at all although it doesn’t look good not having picked up a victory in the league.

“The league is so tight all the teams are taking points off each other and the games that the guys have lost previous to me coming there hasn’t been anything in those games.”
