With things going well in the league McAulay rotated his squad for the tie and was delighted that the team kept their winning run going, finishing 4-3 winners in the shoot out He said: “It wasn’t one of our best performances but I made four or five changes. I felt it was a good opportunity to bring in some of the boys who hadn’t been playing regular and give them some game time.

“It wasn’t anything to do with the players who had been playing but it’s good to make sure everyone is up to speed in case we do get injuries.

“At the end of the day it is another win and we’re in the next round of the cup.” Yoker face a long trip to Peterhead on Saturday to face Longside in the Scottish Junior Cup on Saturday — and McAuley faces an anxious wait to see how many of his squad will make the trip.

He said: “We’ll probably go slightly stronger for that one, we’ll probably missing one or two bodies due to work commitments.

“Over the next few days we’ll find out who is available and decide on a team then, I have a rough idea of the team I want to play but we’ll have to wait and see.” Despite cup commitments interrupting the league schedule McAulay insists that the league still takes presidence over any cup run.

He said: “We want to do as well as we can in the cups but the league will always be priority after that it’s always nice to do well in the Scottish Cup.”
