YOKER boss John McAulay praised his side’s belief and mentality after they came back from a early goal to see off Shettleston at Holm Park on Saturday.

Goals from Greg Maitland, John Harvey and Darren Jones were enough for a 4-2 Whe Ho win and McAulay highlighted the fight in his side.

He told SportScene: “It is a great win for us especially after we never started that well — going a goal down inside the first five minutes.

“But all that does is show how good the belief among the lads is, they seemed to have kicked on from last week where we managed to claw back Irvine Vics to a 2-2 draw after being 2-0 down.

“It shows a great attitude, the boys want to win and clearly don’t give up no matter how hard a game it has been.” The Whe Ho sit sixth in the table following a solid start to the season. Two wins from their opening four games have provide fresh optimism amongst the Holm Park support but they will have to wait a week for more action.

Yoker now face a free weekend after receiving a bye in the first round of the Scottish Cup.

Whilst the likes of rivals Clydebank head to Inverurie to take on Colony Park, McAulay insists he will be on a spying mission to check out upcoming opponents Ardeer Thistle, who face Shettleston in the cup.

McAulay added: “it isn’t very often you get the opportunity to have a look at your opponents but it is just the way things have worked out that we have a free weekend.

“Ardeer are a good side and we know it will be tricky but Saturday will give me the chance to have a proper look at them and find a way of getting the win.

“I have no fears heading into the match because the boys have already shown me that they have what it takes to be successful in this league and we are looking high up the league.

“The bye in the cup gives us enough time to prepare and it should be a good game.”
