CLYDEBANK midfielder Jamie Campbell remained upbeat after his side took a point against Cumnock at the weekend.

The former Partick Thistle youngster was pleased after the Bankies managed a scoreless draw on the road and insisted they could look to build on the performance.

He told SportScene: “Obviously we were going for the win but it was a tough game from start to finish.

“It was a good point for us to get following on from the previous game we had against Glenafton.

“We were disappointing in that one because we were brilliant in the first half and yet in the second we didn’t have any chances and against Cumnock we even managed to clear the ball off the line at one point so we were ultimately pleased with the result.” The result means that Clydebank have now drawn four of their previous five games against the Townhead Park based club who have proven themselves to be formidable opposition.

Next up for Bankies is title hopefuls Irvine Meadow.

Stevie Rankin’s side have enjoyed a winning start to the season with an away win to Arthurlie before a 5-0 drubbing of Troon at Meadow Park on Saturday.

Rankin has moved to strengthen his squad as they look to topple Auchinleck Talbot at the top of the league, and has added to an already experienced squad, which includes Campbell’s former Thistle teammate Marc Twaddle, by bringing in seasoned junior campaigners Ryan Deas and Willie Sawyers.

Campbell added: “We’re looking to try and get a win and we are preparing this week and doing work in midweek for different match scenarios.

“We know they are a good team.” The Bankies playmaker insisted the team aren’t looking too far ahead at this stage, however they have positive aspirations for the season ahead, adding: “We want to do as well as we can do and our aim is to finish as high up in the table as we possibly can, as well as find some success in the cup competitions.” The Holm Park club have added a number of new players over the summer, with no less than six new signings — Stevie Gardiner, Johnny Allen, Graeme Ramage, Graham Mort, Andy Irvine and Jordan Shelvey.

And Campbell admitted he has been impressed with the impact they have made.

He said: “They’ve all added to the squad, especially after the departures of Ciaran McElroy, Ross McPherson and Vinny Berry.

“Hopefully we can add in some more goals and Jordan has done really well up front for us this season so far but right now we are all still just getting to know each other.”
