CLYDEBANK forward Joe Andrew is aiming to continue his fine pre season form into the upcoming league season after netting in last Wednesday’s tie with Glasgow Perthshire.

The striker appears to be enjoying a fresh lease of life alongside new signing Jordan Shelvey, and with goals coming against Glasgow Perthshire and Dumbarton, Andrew is keen to keep scoring once the season gets underway.

He told SportScene: “Hopefully I can score more goals than I did last season.

“I didn’t manage to get that many goals last time round but hopefully I can help the side out with a few more this year — that’s my aim anyway.

“I missed a few games during pre season but the ones I have played in I have managed to score a few goals so I hope I get the opportunity to add to that during the season.” Bankies have started their defence of the Sectional League Cup in fine form, coming through the group with three wins and a draw with rivals Yoker.

Budgie McGhie’s side now look forward to the prospect of taking on Wishaw tonight (Wednesday) in the quarter final stage of the tournament before welcoming Glenafton for the opening league fixture on Saturday.

Tonight’s tie will be only the third time Bankies have faced Wishaw in a competitive match, with the first two matches coming way back in Bankies’ first junior season in 2003/04.

Goals from David Simeon, Mark Hailstones and a Jon Crawford double were enough to give the side a 4-2 victory in the last meeting and Andrew is keen to continue that record and see the side into the semi final of the cup.

He added: “We have always been good in the cup since I have been here and obviously we won last year.

“The aim is to come out on top against Wishaw and then progress to the next round and go from there.” And with the league season due to begin Andrew insists the new look squad have gelled together nicely, just in time for the new campaign.

He said: “A few boys left in the summer but the guys that have come in are looking good.

“They have all come in and done really well, they are fitting in great and the squad is all getting along very well.

“We are looking in good shape and Budgie seems to have strengthened the side.”
