THE competitive action is well and truly under way with both the Bankies and the Who Ho off to winning starts in the Sectional League Cup.

Budgie McGhie’s men followed their friendly victory over Ian Murray’s Dumbarton with a 1-0 win over Maryhill courtesy of Stevie Gardiner’s first half strike whilst Yoker had to rely on Michael Rogers to see them past Glasgow Perthshire.

Rogers had earlier missed a penalty but a cool finish in the second half handed John McAulay’s men the three points.

Clydebank now have a trip to Ashfield’s Saracen Park to look forward to tonight (Wednesday) whilst McAulay’s Yoker welcome Maryhill to Holm Park.

However excitement is building as the two SportScene sides prepare to do battle on Saturday afternoon. Since their junior days the Bankies have struggled to beat their near rivals with the pair sharing the victories in the last five outings.

An Ian Gold strike was enough to separate the two sides this time last year but the year before it was a John Brogan led Yoker who came out 2-0 victors with strikes from Asante and Vickers.

Neither side has exerted any dominance over the fixture in recent times with Bankies 4-1 winners in 2011 following a Charlie Hobbs double and strikes from Ross McPherson and fan’s favourite Darian MacKinnon.

2010 brought another Yoker victory in the Sectional League Cup but a Liam Campbell inspired Bankies brought revenge with a penalty shoot out victory in the Central League Cup later in the year.

This Saturday provides an opportunity for another year of bragging rights for both sets of supporters and fans will be hoping for a good display as they continue their quest for the Sectional League Cup.

Kick off on Saturday is 2pm at Holm Park.
