Points dropped Despite not playing as well as the previous week against Talbot, I thought on the balance of play and chances, we certainly didn’t deserve to lose Saturday’s game against Hurlford.

However, the annoying thing for me is the fact that the way we did lose the game was totally down to our own failings rather than any great play from the opposition.

The goal we lost was down to extremely poor defending and despite making good chances at the other end we failed to finish any of them off.

I would hope if our players are honest when thinking about their own individual performance, many of them will know they were nowhere near as good as the previous week.

Some might blame other things like the soft pitch, the referee or whatever but the long and the short of it all is that I feel we genuinely only have ourselves to blame.

We played the same formation as we have all season, it was the same team selection apart from one enforced change (with Ross McPherson missing out due to illness) yet it was like looking at an entirely different outfit from the one that had deservedly beat Talbot seven days ago.

If we seriously want to progress into a team that challenges for the league title there is no question that the players need to improve their consistency levels.

Another Ayrshire test This Saturday we face yet another difficult away game in the league when we travel down to Ayrshire to face Irvine Meadow.

They have just won through to the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, where by coincidence, they will face our opponents from last Saturday, Hurlford, over two legs.

They are also still in with a chance of winning the league as our recent defeat of Auchinleck Talbot moved Irvine Meadow a bit closer to the top of the league.

We are expecting an extremely tough test again but I have no doubt the lads are capable of giving us our first win over them for some time.
