Yoker fightback not enough
Glasgow Perthshire...4
Yoker Athletic...........3
THE Whe-Ho defence did it again for the third week in a row when they conceded a goal in the first five minutes.
A harmless throw from the left was missed by two Yoker defenders, allowing the Shire striker to bundle the ball over the line.
This was the start that John Brogan must have dreaded and worse was to come from a lacklustre Yoker defence.
Shire could have gone 2-0 up when ex-Yoker man Davie Kirkwood hit the post.
Shire got a real break however when they were awarded a dubious penalty on the 20-minute mark which was converted well to make it 2-0.
On the half hour the Whe-Ho defence thought that they had played the shire striker offside but the referee thought different
and the Shire striker slipped the ball past Yoker keeper David Roger to make it 3-0.
Brogan must have been livid with the way in which his team had stood off the shire allowing them to dictate play in the first half.
However, his half-time talk seemed to make a difference as the Whe-Ho came out a lot stronger in the second half.
Early changes fell to Gary Arbuckle and James Mclernon but they failed to convert the crucial goal.
However, with the Whe-Ho driving forward it was no surprise when they got the goal they deserved when Gary Bissland volleyed home from a superb cross from Jamie Carson.
Seven minutes later Gary Arbuckle was brought down in the box for a penalty and the Shire defender was sent off.
The home side were claiming the foul was outside
the box but Stephen Wedlock coolly slammed home from the spot.
Ten minutes later Shire had another player sent
off for a wild lunge and his second yellow card.
The Whe-Ho went all out for the equaliser but were
caught with a sucker punch when the Shire's lone striker received a long ball and was able to run round the helpless Whe Ho Keeper.
Yoker continued to press and with five minutes to go, Michael Tolland headed in at the near post to make it 4-3.
Time unfortunately ran out for the Whe-Ho and Brogan's men finished second best.
