CLYDEBANK captain Gary Lynn has admitted that the club's unsuccessful promotion bid swayed his decision to stay on at Holm Park for another season.

The dominant Bankies centre-back was thinking about leaving Clydebank this summer after other clubs showed an interest in him.

But after long consideration he decided to re-sign for the club on July 6.

And now the experienced stopper is more determined than ever to help the Bankies reach the top division this time around.

He told Sport Scene: "I didn't want to leave in the first place. There was interest in me from elsewhere though.

"I went away and thought about it but I didn't want to leave with me being captain and I'm now looking forward to the season.

"We want to get promotion into the Super League because it would have been a bit of a failure for me if I had left without winning it.

"That did have an affect on my decision to stay on. Every player wants to play in the Super League and you want to test yourself at the top.

"I have played in the Super League and I want to play in it with Clydebank."

Lynn has even tasted Super Premier League glory with Arthurlie when he was a part of the Barrhead side which clinched with title 10 years ago.

And the Bankies favourite, who has played 76 times in two seasons for the club, is full of belief that the players are capable of reaching the top flight this season after suffering play-off heartache last year.

He said: "I think we are capable of going straight up and missing the play-offs.

"I thought we were unlucky last season considering the amount of games we had to play. You want to be playing against teams like Arthurlie and Pollok every week.

"Our aim is to get into the top two next season.

"That's my aim and I would think it would be the rest of the players' aim."

And manager Budgie McGhie is delighted his captain has decided to extend his stay at Clydebank.

He said: "We are obviously pleased he has re-signed as he has done well for us over the last couple of years.

"We would rather have him than not have him, so it is another piece in the jigsaw."

Clydebank have also added Davie Green to their squad from Knightswood Under-21s.

Green played in a friendly against the Bankies last season but the Clydebank boss revealed he had kept a close eye on the midfidler for some time.

McGhie added: "We have been looking at him for a couple of years. He was at Queen's Park and he also attracted interest from Albion Rovers so he has good potential at Junior level."
