ANDY Selkirk hopes to put last season's injury-plagued season behind him after going under the knife two months early.
The Bankies forward was side-lined for nearly eight months of the last campaign after he was struck down by a knee injury.
However, Selkirk started his road to recovery last week when he got surgery eight weeks earlier than scheduled.
So he now wants to be fighting fit for the start of this season and told Sport Scene that his recuperation has been successful so far.
He said: "The knee is recovering well and now I'm trying my best to get back into fitness.
"I am pushing myself in the gym and trying to get muscle around the knee.
"I was injured in October last year so I missed a good part of the season. I was really frustrating to be out and just watch the boys playing every week.
"There's nothing worse than to be side-lined but hopefully I can push on and have a better season than the last one.
"I was meant to have the operation later on but I managed to get it pushed forward by two months so that worked out well for me.
"Everything's went well so far and things are looking good.
"I will meet with the physio and see what he says and I don't think it will be too much longer before I am running long distance."
Selkirk was pleased with his performances for the Bankies - which included a man-of-the-match display against Haddington in the Emirates Junior Cup - until his knee injury stopped him in his tracks.
He said: "Things were going not too badly and I was starting to get into my stride in games.
"I kept playing with an injury in my knee and I felt it become worse but I felt I was doing well before that.
"I feel that we can definitely build on last season and push for promotion."
Meanwhile, Clydebank manager Budgie McGhie is continuing to rebuild his squad for the new season and has resigned 14 players for the coming campaign.
Important players including Stefan Gonet, Liam Campbell, Ross Campbell, Martin McInnes, Paul Allum, Brian Smith, Mark Hailstones, Darren MacKinnon, Nikky Cairney, Stevie Dallas, Stevie Dymock, Mark Kilpatrick and Chris Mackie have all pledged their futures to Clydebank.
One new addition to the squad is Tommy Martin, who has joined from Knightswood Under-21s.
McGhie said: "With the players we have signed it's a good base to work on.
"We would be looking to add four or five more to that but we will see how things develop.
"We started pre-season on Wednesday and we had a look at a few boys and so far I'm quite pleased with the way things are going.
"I think some thought it was a short break but we didn't want to leave it too late."
Two players who are leaving Holm Park are Shaun Molloy and Scott Marshall. Both players have been made available for transfer following talks with McGhie.
