YOKER will hope to take their great form into 2010 when they take on St Roch's this Saturday.

Athletic boss John Brogan (left) was so impressed with his men's performance leading up to Christmas he gave them the week off training.

But they will be back in action this week when they kick off the new year against the Provanmill Park outfit hoping to keep up the pressure on table toppers Shettleston.

Yoker assistant John McAuley said: "We have been doing nothing over Christmas. The performances leading up to Christmas were pretty impressive so we thought we would just give the players a break all together.

"We have been delighted with the players so far this season. We brought in a few new players in the summer and they have gelled really well with the guys we had kept hold of."

Despite the winter weather wiping out the junior fixture card before Christmas, McAuley is not concerned about the chance of Yoker facing a backlog of games towards the end of their vital campaign.

He added: "We have St Roch's on Saturday but at the moment it looks unlikely to go ahead. But we were up to date with our games anyway so I don't think a backlog will affect us.

"There are teams in the league that haven't played many games so the only problems with us is we could have to wait for teams to play their rearranged matches."

Yoker Athletic take on St Roch's at Holm Park on Saturday, January 9 at 1.45pm.
