CLYDEBANK boss Budgie McGhie admits he has a dilemma on his hands as his side have to juggle a league fixtures backlog and cup success.

The Bankies face a pile-up of league fixtures that have been postponed because of the terrible weather.

The latest game to fall victim to the torrential downpours was their clash with Kilsyth Rangers on Saturday.

McGhie knows if the Bankies are a success in the cup come the second half of the season, it will make a fixture at the end of the campaign even more of a nightmare.

But he insists his side will give nothing less then 100 per cent when they play Craigmark Burtonians on Saturday at 1.45pm in the Scottish Junior Cup, despite having to pay the price for success.

And he wants his men to try and get as far in the competitions as possible this season regardless of how hectic their league schedule becomes.

He said: "We could be punished for our success because I know that the further we get in the cup competitions the worse the fixture backlog will become. Games being called off is something you learn to deal with in the junior game.

"A fixture backlog is an aspect the players will have to deal with at the end of the season.

"It is a catch 22, but I wouldn't want to sacrifice the cup.

"We want to do well in the Junior Cup and we wouldn't want anything else.

"I think it will be a tricky tie against Craigmark. I have tried to see them in action but their games have fallen foul to the weather like ours.

"Instead I will be speaking to people who know about the side.

"It will be a difficult game and I would maybe take a replay back to Yoker even though it wouldn't be ideal."

McGhie revealed he has kept his players up to speed with closed door friendlies recently.

Last week a Stevie Dallas hat-trick helped the Bankies cruise to a 10-2 friendly win against South Camlachie Youth Project under-21s.

Mark Hailstones, Andy Selkirk and Steven Dymock all grabbed well-taken doubles

each and Brian Smith got on the scoresheet as well.

Manager McGhie used 16 players in what was a good work out for his side.
