A TRIO of local footballers have been named in the Scotland U19 squad, writes David Brockett.
Falkirk left-back Tony Gallacher from Drumry, Celtic goalkeeper Ross Doohan of Old Kilpatrick and Aberdeen defender Daniel Harvie, originally from Drumchapel, have all been selected by Ricky Sbragia as Scotland prepare for the UEFA European Under-19 Championship elite round.
Gallacher, 17, reportedly attracted interest from English giants Manchester United and Spanish champions Barcelona in the January transfer window after breaking into the Bairns’ first team at 16, Goalkeeper Doohan has been a mainstay in Tommy McIntyre’s U20 side at Celtic, earning plaudits for a series of impressive performances in their UEFA Youth League and SPFL Development League campaigns and the 18-year-old received his first call up to the U21 squad last year.
Dons defender Harvie, 18 – on loan at Dumbarton – has made 25 appearances for the Sons this season.
Scotland will take on Austria, Hungary and group hosts Czech Republic between 22 and 27 March with the group winners advancing to the eight-team finals which take place in Georgia in July.
