GOLDENHILL AFC take on Kilmarnock side Shortlees FC on Friday night in the West of Scotland Amateur Cup Final.
The cup is well recognised as the next biggest trophy to win in Scotland outside the Scottish Cup and Gowdie have their sights set firmly on lifting the trophy.
They’ve had to do it the hard way to reach the final taking some sizeable scalps of the amateur game including Bannockburn in the last 16 and Hurlford in the quarter finals.
Both these wins came after a penalty shoot out thanks to some heroics from goalkeeper Scott Rennie.
Then the biggest scalp of them all came when they defeated the much fancied Colville Park 2-1 in the semi-final with goals from Marc Morrison and Danny McKenna.
Although the tie did require extra-time it was well recognised that Gowdie were by far the better team throughout the match.
Friday’s final is at New Douglas Park, home of Hamilton Academicals FC.
Kick-off is 7.15pm.
