1999 PAISLEY League – Barrhead Colts 2, Antonine 5

Antonine recovered from a poor start to put on a five-star show in Barrhead on Saturday.

They got off to the worst possible start when going behind after two minutes when their offside trap was beaten.

after two minutes a long ball caught the defence playing offside and the forward timed his run to slot past Andy Carroll.

But shortly afterwards On 10 minutes in Lewis Smith went one on one with the keeper but the keeper saved his shot, still it was a sluggish start but soon after Scott Hutton’s cross was dropped by the keeper and Lewis Smith fired home to make it 1-1, adding another two minutes later – his 25th of the season.

Two minutes later Hutton’s shot was saved by the keeper but Lewis Smith followed up to make it 2-1 with his 25th of the season. Antonine were dealt a blow when a bad tackle left Chris Donaghy with damaged ankle ligaments.

Just before the break a Brendan Kelly cross was put home by Smith but it was mysteriously disallowed.

Half-time 1-2

Five minutes into the second half Brendan Kelly scored from 20 yards with his 5th of the season. Fraser James then came close butand on 55 minutes Joe McKendrick slotted home his third of the season to made it 4-1.

Goal number five came on the hour when the returning Danny Hamilton smashed home his 15th goal of the season from 25 yards.

It was all Antonine after that with Hamilton, James, Dom Cairney, Owen Gallacher and Adam Boyle all went close for Antonine before Barrhead pulled a goal back in the last minute.

from what looked a well offside position to finish the scoring, not the greatest performance but a well deserved victory
