Davidson has scored three goals in his first two starts for Clydebank, including two in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Cumnock.

The 23-year-old striker asked to leave Annan in January after a spell where his first team involvement was limited. He went on to train with Irvine Meadow and has revealed manager Stevie Rankin wanted to sign him but was told that the club didn’t have the money to do the deal.

Davidson would come back to haunt Meadow by scoring against them on his Bankies debut in the 2-1 win over Meadow.

Davidson told SportScene: “I’m just happy to get back scoring goals and enjoying football. I’ve had a tough time this season when I was at Annan so I just want to get back playing every week.

“I wasn’t playing at Annan so I asked to leave. I wasn’t really enjoying travelling all the way down there and sitting on the bench.

“I was coming off the bench and scoring goals for them, I scored three goals in three games and I still didn’t get a start.

“I was training with Meadow. The manager wanted to sign me but he said the board wouldn’t give him money to sign me.

“I trained with them on the Wednesday and played against them on the Saturday and scored.” Davidson has a friendly face to partner him in the Clydebank frontline, Derek Carcary was at Annan with the Bankies new boy. Having linked up well during the Cumnock tie, Davidson is relishing the prospect of playing more with former Rangers kid Carcary.

He said: “We know what each other can do, we compliment each other well. I’m quite close with him too so that helps.” Despite surrendering a two goal lead to Cumnock at Holm Park on Saturday, Davidson believes Clydebank have enough quality to beat the drop.

He said: “To be honest I haven’t seen much difference in standard between Clydebank and Irvine Meadow, Clydebank clearly haven’t had the luck this year because they certainly have the players to challenge at the top of the table instead of where we are.”
