Two goals in two minutes from Scott Davidson looked set to give the former Annan man a dream home debut, but Robert Love pulled a goal back before Chris McKnight’s penalty five minutes from time snatched a draw for the visitors.

Bankies boss Budgie McGhie selected the same starting 11 that won away to league leaders Irvine Meadow last week, with David Verlaque and Scott Davidson making their first home starts for the club.

Cumnock had Clydebank under pressure after four minutes, and only a fantastic point blank stop from Robert Hamilton denied Love.

Ian Gold’s mazy run — in which he evaded four players — was the highlight for Bankies in a largely uneventful first half.

On the stroke of half-time, Phil Barclay nearly gave Bankies the lead in sensational style. Picking the ball up 25 yards from goal, the stand in skipper unleashed a ferocious drive that thundered off the inside of the post before bouncing to safety.

Ten minutes after the restart, Bankies took the lead. Great link up play and one touch passing between Carcary and Davidson saw the former slip the ball to his strike partner, with Davidson taking the ball past Semple in the Cumnock goal before slotting home to open the scoring.

Less than two minutes later, Davidson doubled his tally for the afternoon and gave Clydebank a commanding lead. A swift counter attack saw Carcary burst down the left before whipping in an inch perfect cross that Davidson bulleted past Semple.

Shortly after the hour mark, Clydebank had the chance to put the result beyond doubt when Davidson slipped the ball into the path of Ian Gold, but Semple was out sharp to gather comfortably as Cumnock began to creep back into the match.

The away side a goal back with 20 minutes remaining, once again exposing Clydebank’s inability to defend long balls. Love latched onto a knock down and flicked the ball towards goal, but Hamilton could only help the ball into the net as ‘Nock halved the deficit.

Five minutes from time, Cumnock were awarded a penalty when McKnight’s shot at the back post hit the hand of Andy Paterson, and referee Garry Doherty pointed immediately to the spot. McKnight dispatched the resulting penalty, blasting the ball down the middle to snatch a point.

Saturday’s draw means Bankies remain at the foot of the table, two points behind Shotts Bon Accord and next weeks opponents, Kilbirnie Ladeside.
