Whe Ho secured their place in the last eight with a 1-0 win over Lesmahagow at Holm Park on Saturday.

Despite being one of the lowest ranked teams left in the competition McAulay believes his side can be a match for anyone on their day and admits he is allowing himself the chance to dream of the club reaching the final for the first time since 1936.

He said: “We were pleased to get through, we could’ve played better but we’re more than happy. Definitely we can think about going further. It is a magnificent achievement from the players considering the teams we have had to come up against, they have not been easy.

“We deserve a crack at it now, obviously we will hope for a home draw in the next round.

“Everyone that is left in the draw will probably be hoping to get us because we are one of the lowest ranked teams left.

“We will take anybody, on our day I believe we are capable of beating anybody.” Having put out Longside, Dundonald Bluebell, Glenrothes and Lesmahagow already in their Scottish Cup run, McAulay ranks reaching the quarters as the best achievement of his time at the club.

He said: “Definitely its been fantastic, we have all pulled together. There was a good crowd there on Saturday so it allows the club some money in. Achievement wise it is up there with the best.” As Yoker await the draw for the next round they travel to Rutherglen Glencairn on Saturday hoping for a win to climb the table.

McAulay’s side have slipped down the league with their Scottish Cup ties taking precedence over league fixtures — they have only played twice in the league this year.

With several games in hand over their close rivals McAulay is confident his side can quickly improve on their current position of third bottom.

He said: “We are playing a lot better, we have more depth to our squad now which helps us. Things are looking good now.

“We are four undefeated now. I said to the boys on Saturday that we need to put the Scottish Cup out of our minds now and get a couple of wins in the league to make it a bit more comfortable for us.”
