Clydebank manager Budgie McGhie was disappointed by his team’s performance after losing 2-1 at Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in the League Cup quarter-final last Wednesday night.

The Bankies had sneaked a goal against the run of play in the second half, with Kevin Green flicking a Clydebank delivery into his own net.

But the Premier Division side equalised via a controversial penalty, the referee pointing to the spot for a push in the box.

Lee Gallagher made no mistake from the spot.

Rob Roy scored the winner in extra-time, as Kevin Watt sent the home side into the semi-finals.

The Bankies boss was disappointed with the defending for the second goal, and thought his side were not at the races on the night.

He said: “I didn’t think we played as well as I thought we could.

“We defended quite well, they sneaked the goal at the end and then there was a really controversial penalty given. That is one blow but from that we have got to make sure we give away a second one.

“I’m more disappointed with the second one, because it’s just a high ball in the box and we’ve not got anybody picking it up. It should have been the goalkeeper’s ball as well and Ross will probably put his hands up for that one.

“It’s disappointing but in general we didn’t play as well as we can and we’ve got to improve.”

In the first half the hosts had the lion’s share of possession, with the visitors unable to get a foothold in the opening 45.

Budgie added: “We didn’t change anything tactically at half-time.

“I told them the first half was the poorest we’ve played all season, the poorest we’ve played in a long time. I just thought we hardly found a pass, we gave balls away needlessly which is not like them and basically we need to improve on that.

“We improved a little bit but I still thought even in the second half the players we know are capable of better didn’t give us that performance on the night.”
