A SCOTSOUN Disability Tennis Club member has been chosen as part of the Wheelchair Tennis squad at a national tournament.

Ellie Robertson has been selected to take part in the 2017 School Games National Finals.

The tournament is an integrated multi-sport event for the UK’s most talented school-age athletes in September.

Twelve-year-old Ellie is a student at St Ambrose High School in Coatbridge and is a member of the Scotstoun side.

As well as competing as part of the Scotland squad, she will be able to live in a dedicated Athletes’ Village on the Loughborough University campus, take part in an Opening Ceremony and perform in front of a huge crowd of spectators.

Around 1,600 athletes will compete across 12 sports at the School Games, seven of which include disability disciplines. The four-day event is supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust.

Ellie said: “I was really inspired by the Olympics, when Andy Murray won gold - I actually played tennis with him at Glasgow Hydro!” she said.
