Clydebank manager Kieran McAnespie is wary of other teams seeing his side as a scalp ahead of the Sectional League Cup games starting tonight.

Only one side goes through to the quarters from each group, and the Bankies are favourites to progress to the next round.

But the Holm Park boss says other clubs will target the fixture with Clydebank, and his side need to be wary of that fact.

Speaking before his side's 2-1 win over Glasgow Perthshire on Wednesday, he said: “On paper we would be favourites as we’re in the top league, but it’s going to be tough.

“We will be seen as a scalp and it gives teams an incentive to beat us, and that will make it harder for us, we need to be ready for it.”

Their second game next week at home to Maryhill.

The Bankies next host Ashfield on Saturday, August 12, before playing local rivals Yoker Athletic in their final group game.

And McAnespie will rotate his squad throughout the games, as they gear up for the league season, He added: “It’ll be good preparation and we want to do well in this competition.

“It’s up to the boys to make a claim for the starting lineup for the start of the season. “
