CLYDEBANK moved into the promotion places after a 2-1 victory over rivals Petershill on Saturday, winning three consecutive games in a row, writes David Brockett.
Jason Hardie’s first half spot kick gave Peasy the lead but Nicky Little levelled – also from the spot – before Alan Frizzell tapped home from close range as Bankies move up to third in the table.
Bankies boss Kieran McAnespie made one change to the side that beat Kilsyth Rangers, with Jamie Lyden making his first start in six games, replacing Robbie Halliday at right back.
After a solid start, Clydebank created the first clear cut chance of the half. Nicky Little’s ball over the top was perfectly weighted for Mark Burbidge, but Petershill stopper Michael White was out quickly to thwart the winger’s effort.
Midway through the first half, Bankies had strong claims for a penalty waved away by referee Craig King after Jordan Shelvey was clipped inside the area.
Four minutes before the interval, the hosts were awarded a penalty of their own after McGladrigan went down under pressure from Lyden. Hardie stepped up the spot and buried the ball past Josh Lumsden to give Petershill the lead. Nine minutes after the restart, Bankies were awarded a penalty – their tenth of the season – after Burbidge was caught late inside the box by Alex Cassells. Nicky Little assumed responsibility, sending White the wrong way to claim his 16th goal of the season.
Five minutes later, the turnaround was complete. Bursting away from Cassells and right back Ciaran Friel down the left hand channel, Burbidge squared the ball to Frizzell who took a touch before slotting the ball into the bottom corner for his fourth goal of the campaign.
Bankies stopper Lumsden was called into action midway through the second period, reacting well to tip a drive from distance over the bar as Peasy looked for a way back into the game.
As the clock ticked down Petershill piled on the pressure, with Connor Stevenson’s deflected effort flying narrowly past Lumsden’s left hand post to ensure Bankies left Petershill Park with all three points.
