FOUR local golf clubs are set to unite to honour a course professional.

Clydebank Overtoun, Radnor Park, Clydeview and Cleddans have come together to celebrate Stewart Savage, who is approaching 25 years at Dalmuir Golf Club.

The clubs have planned a tournament and presentation evening to celebrate the milestone.

A four-man team competition has been organised and will take place on Saturday, April 29. Costing £20 per player, those taking part should have an official handicap.

This will be followed by a special evening on Saturday, May 5 in Clydebank Town Hall. The night will include a three course meal, an after dinner speaker and entertainment, with tickets priced £25.

Davy Gartshore, secretary of Radnor Park Golf Club, said: “Along with West Dunbartonshire Council, Stewart has worked tirelessly to improve the course and facilities for the clubs and public alike.

“Stewart is particularly committed to introducing kids to the sport, which is both admirable and crucial with the number of people playing the sport falling throughout the country.

“Stewart organises coaching lessons for schools and clubs and assists with community groups. He has also worked with the council to make playing more affordable for young people. The clubs who use the course, along with an active midweek pensioners club, have separate requirements over the year including open days and memorial tournaments, and any requests to Stewart for assistance in running these events is always met positively. He will always ensure that anything requested will be provided where possible.”

He added: “The group organising these events are hoping that individuals or businesses will donate prizes either for the competition, or for the raffle which is being run to cover the costs.”

“Prizes do not need to be golf orientated, any donation would be gratefully accepted to help the clubs honour someone who has worked tirelessly for local sport and the community in general.”
