Glasgow Mid-Argyll Shinty Club picked up their first win of the league season, beating fellow promoted side Kilmallie at Canal Park on Saturday.
The Peterson Park based side travelled up to Fort William looking to grab their first win of the campaign, but fell behind to Duncan Rodger’s goal after 18 minutes.
But GMA bounced back in the second half, with Gary Luke and Craig Anderson sealing the comeback win.
There was some history between the teams, with both vying for promotion last year, and eventually Kilmallie took the top spot.
GMA drew last year at Canal Park, and lost the home tie and were out for revenge against Kilmallie.
The game was end to end at the start with both teams spurning early chances to take the lead.
There was an early blow for GMA when Brian Slattery went off injured with a knee injury after five minutes.
But the visitors opened the scoring after a defensive mistake from GMA after a long lofted ball into the defence.
But both the GMA full-back and goalkeeper went for the same ball, and Kilmallie’s Rodger was able to sneak in and score at the back post.
It was against the run of play at that point, with GMA on top, and Callum McLay hit the post just two minutes after.
The game then began to become more physical, particularly in midfield with lots of strong tackles going in.
GMA scored after a long cross ball to Craig Anderson, taking the ball down on his chest and firing in off his backhand.
With only 15 minutes remaining Kilmallie threw everything at it, bringing an extra man up front to try and grab a crucial goal.
But the GMA defence managed to hold firm, Jamie McFadden filling in for Slattery in midfield along with Duncan Macrae and Innes MacMillan helped shield the backline.
But GMA’s fitness showed in the end, and they weathered the storm to pick up their first win of the campaign.
GMA next host Kinlochshiel at Peterson Park on Saturday, the game starts at 2.30pm.
