Yoker Athletic manager Steven Reilly says his side need to pick up at least five more wins to secure their safety this season.

They currently sit seven points above the relegation zone, but with teams below them having games in hand they are in a precarious position.

The Whe-Ho have yet to pick up a win in 2017, and their poor run continued on Saturday, losing 3-0 at Petershill.

The away side started well, but it was mistakes that cost Reilly’s side again.

He said: “We’ve got 10 games left and we still need to win five or six of them to stay in it.

“I was disappointed on Saturday, we were playing against a team at the top of the table and we had enough of the game to keep the scoreline down. It was a bit hard on the lads but we weren’t under too much pressure in the first half until we made stupid errors that cost us and we were 2-0 down at half-time. Once they got the goals they’ve got their tails up and it’s difficult after that.

“We were very comfortable and that’s the problem with having such a young side, they do all the right things and have a good shape, keep them at bay and Petershill weren’t playing with any fluency at all.

“We were catching them at the break and that was the game plan and then even at 1-0 we were still in the game, but a mix-up between Liam Campbell and Richard Henry has cost us for the second goal.

“It’s just a young team that’s lacking confidence at this moment in time and we have to put a stop to it at as soon as possible.“We’re now only seven points ahead of the relegation zone we need to start picking up points quickly.”

It’s an ongoing saga with us at the moment, we’re not picking points up.

Marc McManus was sent off

We’re in this league for a reason, we’re a good enough side and we were showing that up until Christmas.

We’re not scoring goals at the moment and that’s the problem

We’ve got 10 games left and we still need to win five or six of them to stay in it.

We’re still sitting on 19, it’s not doing us any favours and see teams getting ahead of us, the only good thing about Saturday was the other teams in the bottom four lost as well.
