FIVE under-19 Clydebank players are set to sign with the first team this week.

Sean Smith, Jordan Hay, Robbie Donaldson, Brandon Price and Matt McLean will all be signed up after impressing in the youth team this season.

Their form has been impressive in recent weeks, securing their place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup and the League Cup.

And manager Kieran McAnespie had included striker Smith and goalkeeper Grant Mackie in the squad for their game against Shotts Bon Accord on Saturday, only for the game to be called off.

But the Bankies boss was delighted with the efforts of the youngsters, who played in a friendly against Harmony Row under-21s on Monday.

He said: “Hopefully this Saturday we’ll have them signed up. I’ve been very impressed with them.

“They played particularly well in the reserve game last week.”

This weekend’s game is against Irvine Meadow, who have won their last three games and are unbeaten in their last five outings.

Gareth Turner and Michael Wardrope’s side sit just one point below the Bankies, and have played two fewer games.

And Saturday’s game could have a big say on both teams’ hopes of promotion towards the end of the season.

McAnespie added: “We want to try and build some momentum.

“This week’s training’s been brilliant, and we’ll make sure we prepare for this Saturday.

“Gareth Turner has brought a lot more local kids in this year and made them a tough team to beat.”

Danny MacKinnon took a knock on his ankle last week, and is touch and go for the game against Meadow, with Rab O’Neill likely to return in a couple of weeks. Kick-off is at 2pm.
