TEN-man Clydebank fought back to grab a 1-1 draw with Irvine Victoria on Saturday, writes David Brockett.

Bankies were a man down for more than an hour after Calum Gow was dismissed for denying a goal-scoring opportunity, and fell behind to Callum Davidson’s strike early in the second half.

Battling Bankies then secured a point thanks to Nicky Little’s penalty kick after Jordan Shelvey was fouled inside the area.

Budgie McGhie made three changes to the side that lost the derby day clash with Yoker, with Andy Paterson, Danny MacKinnon and Alan Frizzell returning to the starting 11.

Bankies almost conceded in the opening stages for the second successive week when Jamie Darroch was caught in possession by Kevin Adam, but Calum Gow recovered well to make a challenge.

Midway through the first half, Bankies were reduced to 10 men. A ball over the top caught out the Bankies back line, with Adam going down under a challenge from Gow. Referee Will Wilson took advice from his assistant before showing Gow a straight red card.

Referee Wilson had another big call to make moments later, when Nicky Little was denied a penalty after he seemed to be caught by Vics skipper Wilson in the area, but the protestations were waved away.

Ten minutes after the restart, Vics got their noses in front. Good wing play from Jamie Anderson saw him find Callum Davidson, who volleyed beyond Lumsden.

After the hour mark, Danny MacKinnon – making his first start of the season – was replaced by Jordan Shelvey, a change which was to prove pivotal. Bankies second switch of the afternoon saw Robbie Halliday replace Cammy Haddow in midfield as Bankies continued to press.

Ten minutes from time, Peter McGill found Shelvey out on the left and, just as he feigned to come inside, was caught by Vics full back Singleton. Nicky Little comfortably stroked the ball beyond Chris Lamb.

Bankies took confidence from the equaliser. Shelvey’s corner from the left was met by Jamie Darroch, but the defender’s glancing header went wide.
