DUNTOCHER professional golfer John Henry agonisingly missed the cut by one for the next round of the European Tour Qualifying School at The Roxburghe Golf Course.

Henry finished with a par score after four days, finishing tied 23rd, with only the top 21 going through to the second qualifying round.

The golfer was disappointed with his putting in the first three days.

He said: “I’m disappointed to miss the cut by one shot. I feel as though I hit the ball pretty well.

“I feel as though over the first three days I didn’t putt very well, and it wasn’t until the last day that it started improving “So hopefully that’s a step in the right direction.

“The first day I shot two under,  and the only reason I made my birdies was because I hit it so close.

“The second day I didn’t quite hit it as well and the putting stayed the same.

“It’s hard to take, but you’ve got to take the positives from it.”

This was Henry’s third attempt at a European Tour Qualifying School event, and with the costly entry fee of £1,400 the golfer said it’s the price you have to pay to make it.

He added: “That was my third time, the previous times I’d just missed it by two or three shots.

“If you’re trying to get onto the European Tour or trying to get on to the Challenge Tour then you need to invest in yourself to go and do it.”

The last round of the EuroPro Tour starts today [Wednesday] at the Clipper Logistics Championship Pro-Am at Moor Allerton Golf Club, Leeds.

And Henry is likely to play in some smaller events in the winter months.
