The Glasgow Gaels senior men’s and junior sides booked their places in county finals last week.

The senior men’s team beat Tir Conaill Harps 1-12 (15 pts) to 1-04 (7 pts) at Thornliebank in their semi-final.

And the juniors overcame the TCH Junior side 0-13 (13pts) to 1-02 (5pts) in their last-four clash.

The sides now face rematches of last year’s county finals, with both sides playing Dunedin Connollys.

Gaels v Tir Conaill Harps In what is always a fiery encounter, the senior men put in a season’s-best performance.

This derby had what all rival games typically do – plenty of yellow cards, a penalty and tough tackling throughout.

The Gaels started off with a bang – hitting three points from play and converting two frees to go up by five points before a score from the other Glasgow side.

After the first score from Harps, the Gaels forwards hit another two from play.

The TCH men were awarded a penalty just before half-time, converted easily past a well-primed Gaels keeper.

The goal put the Harps men back in contention at half-time, they trailed by just one point, 0-07 to 1-01.

The Gaels came roaring out in the second half with a quick screamer into the top corner of the net from play.

Two frees, resulting in yellow cards for the respective TCH men, left the Gaels up 1-09 to 1-02 halfway into the second half.

The game started to intensify and the Harps men went in with some very tough tackles.

The Gaels kept their composure and discipline though, quietly converting their frees at every stage to see out the victory.

Juniors v Harps Next up, the juniors took on TCH.

The junior side showed their strength in depth with a glittering performance against their toughest rivals.

This time the Harps men started off superbly, with an early goal. The wind proved to be a tough opponent for the Gaels – they hit upwards of five wides in the first half, just pushed out by heartbreaking gusts.

The champions found their rhythm though and hit four points from play to put them ahead 0-08 to 1-01 at half-time.

The second half saw the wind on the Gaels side. Some very rough tackles saw TCH men with a few yellow cards, the black cards staying ominously in the pocket.

The Gaels forwards were in the swing of things now though, and scored three lovely black spot points and two points from frees to put them in control.

The junior side’s own Bernard Brogan, Zephylin Devine, then marched up the field to the roar of the Gaels sideline to put a last-minute point over from the tightest of angles to make the final score 0-13 to 1-02.

The seniors and juniors will play Dunedin Connollys on Sunday, October 2 at St. Ambrose High School, Coatbridge.

The matches kick-off at 12.30pm and 2pm respectively.
