DUNTOCHER professional golfer John Henry finished tied 10th at Mar Hall GC in Renfrewshire in the EuroPro Tour.

The three-day event was heavily affected by the weather and was cut down to two days after torrential rain.

But Henry was able to give himself plenty of birdie opportunities on a course he knew well to finish with a score of -4.

And he now sits 29th in the tour, with two more events remaining.

He said: “I gave myself a lot of birdie opportunities but I only holed three of them. It was a big advantage knowing the course well. You could take on a few more aggressive shots because you knew there was more room to do that.

“It was a long day. I was up ready for 7am to get ready for the tee, and just as I was about to get ready to tee off they blew the horn to call off play as one of the greens had flooded. We kept having to wait for new announcements before we were eventually told we would be emailed at 6pm, and that’s when they reduced it to two days.”

Henry also competed at Hawkstone Park GC in Shrewsbury on August 31-September 2.

He made the cut – despite shooting an eight on the opening hole, a par four.

He added: “I was going well but that killed me [the eight] last week, and this week I was playing the percentages for the first shots.”

John is competing this week at the Roxburghe GC in Kelso in the European Tour qualifying school, and is currently on -1 after two days.

The event continues until Thursday evening, when any player within seven shots of the final qualifying place will go forward to the final round on the Friday for a chance to win a place on the European Tour.
