CLYDEBANK manager Budgie McGhie will be cutting short his holiday in Majorca to jet back across to take charge of the Bankies as they take on local rivals Yoker this weekend.

After seeing his side triumph in a comfortable victory against Shotts Bon Accord on Saturday, beating the North Lanarkshire side 3-0 thanks to a Mark Burbidge brace and Peter McGill’s strike in between, he will put the Sangria on hold for Saturday’s tie against the Whe-Ho.

He said: “I missed a game last year because I was on holiday, and we got beat 4-0 so I thought I better not do that again!”

“It was a satisfying 3-0 victory, the goals in particular were good quality goals.

“If I was being hyper-critical there was a wee spell in the second half when we let Shotts have a bit more possession and territory than we would like but as I said we’ll take a 3-0 win at any point in the season.

“Shotts have got some good players, they’re probably just trying to find their feet a wee bit and all we can hope for is that they do find their feet and start taking points off other teams.”

And the Bankies take on their local rivals in the derby this Saturday, with both sides coming into the game in good form. He said: “It’s never easy game against them.

“After the League Cup campaign, from the evidence I’ve seen, Yoker look like as if they’ve improved from last year squad wise from last year and they had a good win against Cumbernauld.

“It’s going to be tough, not just the fact that it’s a derby but that we’re playing a team that have a good squad and that are sitting second, and they’ll be looking to get into the promotion hunt as well.”

Budgie gave his updates on the squad ahead of the game, saying Nicky Little would be back in contention, and Andy Paterson would be touch and go. Two other absentees returned to training on Monday, McGhie adding: “Danny MacKinnon and Rab O’Neil started back, two of our longer outstanding injuries. It’ll be far too early for them but it’s good sight to see.”
