Clydebank continued their pre-season preparations with a 2-0 win over Greenock on Saturday, writes David Brockett.

A goal in each half — Alan Vezza and Stevie Young the scorers — proved the difference between the sides, as the Bankies made it two wins from two outings.

Bankies’ boss Budgie McGhie made eight changes to the side that beat Harmony Row, with trialists Daniel Crawley and Peter McGill starting in a 4-3-3 formation.

After a slow start, Clydebank started to settle into their rhythm and built momentum. Joel Kasubandi was first to have an effort on target, before Mark Burbidge flashed a shot across the face of goal.

Then recent signing Alan Frizzel capitalised on a slack back pass but his looping effort went narrowly over the bar.

On 20 minutes, the Bankies opened the scoring. Mark Burbidge’s corner was met by the head of Vezza, who nodded in the first goal of the game.

After the restart, Burbidge found himself through on GOAL but his shot was clawed to safety by the Greenock goalkeeper.

Burbidge continued to cause havoc on both flanks, twice being denied a shot on goal by the referee who deemed him to be offside.

The Bankies took full control of possession, with Josh Lumsden only called into action once — he tipped a shot round the post.

Trialist Stuart Hay was introduced midway through the second half, and almost had an immediate impact. But his shot was deflected narrowly wide of the post.

With less than five minutes remaining, Bankies doubled their lead. Another bursting run from Burbidge down the left saw him beat the full-back for pace, driving to the byline and squaring the ball for Stevie Young to tap in as Clydebank secured their second win in five days.

Next up for Clydebank is a trip to Barrhead to take on Arthurlie tonight. Kick-off at Dunterlie Park is 7.30pm.
