CLYDEBANK Gaelic football club Glasgow Gaels have been back in action contesting finals across several age groups.

At the League Final weekend in two very fast-paced match-ups, the Gaels took on Dunedin Connollys (Edinburgh) in both the Junior and Senior League finals on Saturday, May 21.

The U14 squad contested the Shield final on Sunday, May 22.

The Senior League final saw a repeat of last year’s match-up, the Gaels senior team going into it having beaten the Edinburgh side earlier in the league.

A very intense first half saw the sides level at half time with five points each.

However in the second half, Connollys’ forwards were able to convert their chances more than the Gaels side.

Several well-taken points and two goals in the second half sealed victory for the Edinburgh side with the final score: 1-5 (8) to 2-10 (16).

But the Gaels proved why they finished on top of the Junior League table with a resounding victory in the Junior League final.

The Gaels hit the ground running with some very well taken scores right from the start. The Glasgow men found their rhythm very early on and with some very clinical passages of play found themselves in a very comfortable position five points up at half time, 0-8 to 0-3.

The second half proved the Gaels’ dominance with several points from play and some very well taken goals. The final score was 5-16 (31) to 0-4 (4).

Completing a day of mixed emotions for the Gaels, the win provided promising evidence of the depth of the Gaels squad going into the Championship.

The Underage (U14) Shield final saw the underage squad gave a promising performance against Coatbridge Davitts on Sunday, ending the first half in front 1-0 (3) to 0-2 (2) aided by a goal from Anthony Lawless and a wonder save by Mathew Mattieson.

In the third quarter, the Coatbridge side showed their skill and experience and despite brilliant defending by Scotland player Josh McDade, the Davitts went on to win by an eight-point margin.

Many of the players will continue to represent the club in the U12 Championship later in the year as well as many of the youngsters representing the boys and girls national teams at the Féile tournament over the summer break.
