CLYDEBANK goalkeeper Josh Lumsden insists he didn’t think twice about committing to the Bankies for another year.

The 19-year-old has made the number one jersey his own since joining from Dumbarton in the summer and last week signed a contract extension which will keep him at the club until the end of next season.

Lumsden has put in some eye-catching performances this season, none more so than in Saturday’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Auchinleck Talbot in the West of Scotland Cup quarter-final.

The Premier League and Scottish Cup champions were kept at bay by a number of fine stops from Lumsden as the match finished 1-1 after normal time.

Despite his growing reputation Lumsden revealed he gave no thought to what offers he might receive from elsewhere in the summer, such is his happiness at Budgie McGhie’s Bankies.

He said: “The club have been very good to me. I wasn’t sure how much I would play this season when I joined. They have had enough faith in me to start me all season and I’ve got Robert Tiropoulos pushing me every week.

“I’m happy at Clydebank, it is a good changing room and I like the set up. I think another year at this level will be good for me.

“They were really keen to get me signed up which showed they care about me and it’s nice to have that faith shown in me.”

Lumsden believes his showing at Beechwood Park was his best in a Clydebank jersey, while the team display against the West Region’s top side gives the goalkeeper plenty of optimism should Clydebank win promotion back to the top flight.

He said: “It was definitely my best performance for Clydebank. I think we should’ve won in the end, it was horrible to lose on penalties.

“We played really well. We’ve set a marker for ourselves now, we need to keep that going in the league."

“I think it shows we could compete in the Premier League if we can get promotion this season.”

Clydebank are locked in a four-way battle for promotion with Largs Thistle, Cumnock and Kilwinning Rangers in the Super League First Division. Tonight’s home tie with Kilsyth Rangers (7pm kick-off) will be followed by a trip to Greenock on Saturday and Cumbernauld on Monday night.

The Cumbernauld game will be Clydebank’s eighth in 16 days. While Lumsden admits to some nerves for the title run in, he insists he can't wait to play in some massive games He added: “The number of games in a short period of time is really difficult. I think some of the boys are struggling with niggling injuries but they are doing everything they can to keep playing and help the team We have some big games coming up. Kilwinning, Largs and Cumnock have been do doing really well.

"We all still need to play each other, it’s a bit nerve-wracking but these are the games you want to be involved in."
