CLYDEBANK manager Budgie McGhie insists his side will have to start taking more of their chances if they are to win promotion back to the Premier League.

The Bankies lost 2-0 at Blantyre Victoria on Monday, meaning they have picked up just two points from the last four games. Clydebank are now four points off the automatic promotion spots in fourth place in the Super League First Division.

However, McGhie is adamant that performances have been good enough for his side to have claimed more wins this season. He believes the issue for his young squad has been their wastefulness in front of goal.

He said: “For the amount of chances we create we are not scoring enough. In most games where we have dropped points we have created more chances and been the better team.

“In games like the two against Yoker and when we played Cumnock that was the case. The performances have been there, but the difference has been not finishing the chances we create.

“It is a frustration but it’s still a young squad and all the players have the ability to improve.”

A highlight for Clydebank in recent weeks was their 3-1 win over Premier League side Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in the West of Scotland Cup last Wednesday.

McGhie insists the victory shows the potential of the current Clydebank squad and he is relishing the prospect of taking on Premier League and Scottish Junior Cup holders Auchinleck Talbot in the quarter-final on Saturday.

He added: “It does show what we can do. That gets us a break from the league next Saturday when we travel to Auchinleck Talbot.

“That will be a great test for the boys.

"They are arguably the best team in the West Region, they are probably going to win the Premier League again.

"A win would get us in the semi-final which is a massive incentive.”
