CLYDEBANK striker Joel Kasubandi is convinced the team spirit in the Bankies squad can propel them to league title success this season.

Budgie McGhie’s side currently occupy second spot in the Super League First Division, four points behind league leaders Largs Thistle with a game in hand.

They have won their two league games which beat the weather in 2016, scoring five and keeping two clean sheets in the process.

Kasubandi, who has impressed at the Bankies since his move from Vale of Clyde in the summers, believes Clydebank have the quality and togetherness in their squad to not only win automatic promotion by finishing in the top two, but to return to the Premier League as champions.

He said: “Our priority is to get promoted but if we can win the league it would be a massive bonus. There is a buzz around the club at the moment and we believe we can win the league because we’ve played most of the teams,in the league so we know what we’re up against.

"We are better placed as a squad than at the start of the season now we’re all bedded in.

“We’re all pals as well, we all get on well with each other and there’s not a bad apple in the team. It’s probably one of the best teams I’ve played in in that sense.”

With Clydebank’s West of Scotland Cup tie against Whitletts Victoria postponed on Saturday, their league rivals took full advantage as Largs Thistle and Kilwinning Rangers won their league matches which beat the weather.

Bankies travel to second bottom of the table Bellshill Athletic on Saturday. Despite their league position and the result when the sides met in September, a 4-1 win for Clydebank, Kasubandi insists Clydebank can afford to take nothing for granted.

He said: “Bellshill are a good side, they got promoted last year. I played them a few times with Vale of Clyde.

“I think we have better players technically so if we play the way we can we should win that comfortably.”
