Heartwarming and sad

The story of Catherine and John Docherty's golden wedding anniversary was both heartwarming and sad (last week's Clydebank Post).

It's incredible to think that the two sisters were married just weeks apart and it's even more incredible to think that the brides were able to share a wedding dress!

It is terribly sad that Ann has passed away and the sisters won't have the opportunity to celebrate their milestone together.

I also think this story highlights a huge change not only in brides, but society today. Weddings are supposed to be heartfelt and special occasions - not a reason to try to keep up with the Joneses.

You've only got to watch wedding programmes on TV to see that some brides are just using their big day as an excuse to show off, and in my opinion, that's not what getting married should be about.
