Changing cigarette packets will not make a differance
In my opinion, I don't think that changing cigarette packets will make any difference to whether people smoke or not.
In reference to the article on Page 2 of the Post on May 23, I completely understand where Fiona McCallum is coming from, having lost someone close to lung cancer myself, but I just don't see changing the packaging saving lives.
You can't deny that a lot of kids today are influenced by branding - whether they're looking at trainers or mobile phones, most kids want the trendiest and coolest make, but I'm willing to bet they start smoking because they are curious or feel pressured by their mates.
Perhaps ploughing more money into cancer care and treatment might lead to a quicker diagnosis which in turn could save lives.
