THE Letters Page in the Clydebank Post is a place where readers get a chance to air their views and have their say.

For that reason it is of great importance that there is no censorship, beyond legal any requirements and those of public decency, of any of the letters printed.

Readers may not always agree with contributors’ points, but will often relish the chance to debate the issues in the forum.

Quite often, views expressed are not shared by the Post or by the wider community but in the principle of freedom of speech, the page is open to everyone regardless of their political persuasion, allegiance, gender, race or religion.

The page is for the communities served by the Clydebank Post and for the readers.

In recent weeks the Post has printed a number of letters from a contributor calling himself Derek Johnstone concerning St Margaret’s Hospice.

The Post had some concerns about some of the claims made by Mr Johnstone and after some investigation we discovered the home address he had supplied us with, a requirement for all contributors to the Letters Page, does not appear to be genuine.

Mr Johnstone has failed to offer an explanation for this and it therefore calls into question his credibility in matters concerning St Margaret’s Hospice.

Mr Johnstone’s letters were printed in good faith but unfortunately he has seen fit, for motives which remain unclear, to deceive the readers of the Clydebank Post.
