I READ with interest the article on the arrival of Tesco in Clydebank.
Before such a large development was agreed by the council, I do hope that consideration of the infrastructure, namely, the road connections, are to be upgraded for such a large project.
Being a resident of Linnvale I believe that no such consideration will have been given to the layout of the roads.
When the new college was built there was no change to the road system, only lights at Cart Street with no filter to the right, and I am therefore dismayed at the possibility that when the new leisure centre and related buildings are completed on the old shipyard site, and Tesco and accompanying buildings are completed, that there will be more and more traffic on the narrow roads and bridges existing in Clydebank.
Several years ago I gave a great deal of thought to the problem people in Linnvale have in terms of exiting their community.
On a particular Saturday we could not get out of Linnvale too quickly get to an elderly parent and had to simply abandon our vehicle and walk/run to their aid.
What will happen if someone takes ill in our community during the rush hour?
Surely a slip road from Linnvale, over the canal into Whitecrook Street would help residents.
Or, alternatively, make a one-way system down Kilbowie Road, along Glasgow Road, up to Montrose Street with roundabouts off to shops and parking.
Exits could be made off Kilbowie Road to car parks instead of a bottleneck at the Linnvale end.
Sadly I do not believe that the planners will consider the residents in their pursuit of attracting business to the area.
Or, maybe someone will come up with a great idea to cope with the ever increasing traffic in our area.
However, I am not holding my breath as in today’s world the little people mean nothing.
Margaret McGregor, Linnvale
