DESPITE Derek Johnston's antagonism towards St Margaret of Scotland Hospice - so clear to your readers from his letter (July 14) - his assertion that he, and others, are "confused" and "being kept in the dark" about our ongoing efforts to resolve the uncertainties triggered by the health board's proposal is both unfairly misleading and disingenuous.

Your readers should know that Mr Johnstone has made it quite clear that he has no wish to discuss his concerns directly with us - a stance which certainly suggests to me that he is not motivated by a willingness to listen and to learn through dialogue.

Had he chosen to accept our invitation he might at least have concurred with what so many people know to be true - namely, that in all our dealings with the health board our only concern has been to continue to secure the best possible patient care for the people we have served for so long.

Sadly, the tone of Mr Johnstone's letter suggests that perhaps the old adage holds true in this case - what Peter says about Paul often tells us more about Peter than Paul.

Sister Rita, chief executive, St Margaret of Scotland Hospice
