HOW disappointing to read that our union (EIS) is even considering how teachers caught up in volcanic ash cancelled flights, during their Easter break, can work back their missed hours.

What a cheek.

Latest research has stated that one in 10 teachers works more than 55 hours a week.

Is it not about time teachers remembered the working hours agreement that they fought for?

If teachers were able to use extra hours worked as time off owed to them, as many council employees are entitled to, how far would Curriculum for Excellence have progressed.

Teachers do not have the luxury of taking paid leave, while receiving a substantial payment for working at elections.

Hopefully all concerned will treat this as an unfortunate Act of God, which has left many teachers out of pocket, and not another way to leave hard working teachers feeling even more undervalued.
