THE Queen Mother's Hospital has been closed and Yorkhill and the Western Infirmary are to be closed and all treatment to be transferred to the Southern General.

Fortunately I do not need maternity care, but my way to get to the Southern General from Yoker would be to take the ferry, walk to Renfrew Cross and find out what bus would take me to the hospital.

There is no direct public transport to get us to the southside.

The Clyde Tunnel and Kingston Bridge often have traffic jams, so how are ambulances going to get here in emergencies?

The previous ferry carried vehicles but not enough to have the new ferry vehicle-carrying, but supposedly designed to carry an emergency vehicle should the need arise. Is SPT planning to use the savings from the ferry to introduce a direct bus service to the Southern General? I doubt it. Good luck to Murray Roxburgh.

If he is successful he could literally be a life saver - to babies and mums-to-be just now and to children and adults later, as well as the welfare of those who use the ferry for work. My daughter's reaction was "how will we get to the park?" as we sometimes go to Robertson Park. Here is hoping.

Gail Miller, Yoker
