In recent months there has been vandalism within the community by a very small number of young people, particularly the damage to the under 5s play area in Drumchapel Park.

Some of these young people have also been involved in the disgraceful scenes after Winterfest last year with police officers and members of the public and even some members of the publics pets being attacked by fireworks.

These fireworks were not just explosives for home display but were those used for formal displays. This kind of behaviour is totally unacceptable and is not the kind of behaviour that I as a local councillor will tolerate.

I have made it absolutely crystal clear that if anyone is caught behaving like this and they are charged by the police and found guilty then I will be asking their housing association to look at the tenancy and if they live in a private let or private property I will be seeking legal advice from the council on the next steps that we can take against them.

I will not accept a small number of people dragging the good name of Drumchapel through the muck so that they can have some fun at the expense of the community.

Winterfest is very much in danger of being stopped if these scenes continue.

This kind of behaviour have serious consequences and I am very much hoping that the people involved in this understand the consequences of their actions – not only are they putting themselves in danger but they are endangering members of the public and are endangering the future of Winterfest.

Winterfest has played a huge part in reducing rogue bonfires in not just Drumchapel but the north west of the city.

To the people that are involved in this please think of your actions.

It is not acceptable and I will not tolerate it under any circumstances.
