West Dunbartonshire Joint Trade Unions are attempting to put together a coalition with the JTU and the community, this is an innovative and radical idea.

The JTU working with and talking to communities can only be good for everyone in West Dunbartonshire, so far the response from the community has been excellent.

Government and councils work in partnership with our communities so it makes sense for the JTU to engage fully with our communities. I wish them well in this exciting venture.

I managed to visit the new council offices last week and have to say it is impressive, it is all very modern with a nice comfortable reception.

The chambers should make a more comfortable setting for the public to attend council meetings. They will sit above the meeting giving them a very good view. They should also be able to hear much clearer than they did at Garshake. Each councillor will have a microphone in front of them for when they wish to speak or make derogatory comment in the case of some members of the administration, though at least four of the administration will no doubt rarely, or never, touch their on button.

All in all it is an impressive setting, Clydebank Town Hall will always remain the iconic setting for council meetings but a very nice building never the less. I do wonder though how this sitting down lark will work out when things get a tad excitable. Time will tell.

On Thursday, June 28 newly revamped Dalmuir square will be officially opened, the event starts at 4pm with the official opening taking place about 4.30 pm.

This project has been a real success for the community. They took a drab area and turned it in to something we can all be very proud of. From the first moment the park was put in place the children flooded to it, they even renamed it “the boat park” who am I to argue with the experts.

It was my pleasure to be part of the development from the beginning, formerly as chair of the community council, and from the moment we first started discussing the plans there was an excitement about the whole project.

It should be said here that Greenspace was fantastic in their dedication, not only in creating the square but listening and injecting the wishes of the community they did themselves and the community very proud.

So come along on Thursday and bring the children, the weather is apparently going to be wonderful for this special occasion, and rumour has it there may be tea and sausage rolls on the offing.
