The Greenock-born star of Line of Duty posted a photo showing a beef curry, a glass of Irn Bru, a bag of prawn crackers and the popular comedy show, Still Game, on the TV.

He captioned the picture: "Beef Curry chips, Irn Bru and Still Game. Good to be home!" alongside the hashtag #greenockia.

The post proved an instant hit with fans and famous friends of the actor with over 100 replies and 1,700 likes.

Still Game's Greg Hemphill replied saying: "Welcome home, traveller!"

And Gary Hollywood of Mrs Brown's Boys fame posted: "Ohhh perfection."

When talent manager, Alexander Cooke, asked "How's the diet going?" Compston replied saying he was "screen ready kinda."

Fans also shared their appreciation for his choice of Saturday night feast at home.

Earlier on Saturday, a bushy-bearded Compston appeared as a special guest on Alex Salmond's Edinburgh Fringe Festival show, Salmond Unleashed.

The star thanked bidders at the event who raised £1,000 for Ardgowan Hospice in Greenock.
