PARENTS have been sent a second letter of reassurance after an alleged child sex attack at a primary school.

Education boss Maureen McKenna, of Glasgow City Council, sent another letter to concerned parents on Friday following the alleged incident last week.

She was joined by members of the school’s Parent Council in reassuring parents that their children’s safety was the priority.

As reported by the Evening Times last week, James Moran was arrested and appeared in court on Thursday charged with two counts of sexual assault involving a child and one charge of abduction.

The charges against the 32-year-old claim he brought a child in to a cupboard, stripped them and took a photograph of them.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

Parents were outraged that they had not been informed about the details of the alleged incident following the arrest last week.

One parent, who did not want to be named, said: “It’s absolutely disgusting that the school have kept us so ill-informed about this. We’ve found out more about what is going on from the newspapers than from the school and council itself.

“Many of us were worried about why police were at the school in the first place, so to find out somebody has been arrested and charged, with allegations of this nature, is just difficult to handle.

“It raises serious concerns with many parents about the council and its handling of this.”

The letter from Ms McKenna stated: “I am sure that you will have read or be aware of the media reports following the court appearance – including the information and details on the charge sheet.

“I know that the details will have alarmed and concerned you.

“I am sorry that we are in this situation.

“We are continuing to work with police and as it is a live case any sharing of information would be sub judice...

“Please let me reiterate again that the school staff have handled and continue to handle this difficult situation extremely well and the safety of your children remains our priority at all times.”
