AN appeal to raise money for the family of Coatbridge man Sean McKenna has been launched following his father's heartbreaking announcement of his death.

The 24-year-old had been missing since Monday, October 10, but last night dad James took to social media to break news of his passing.

Now kind-hearted members of the public have launched a JustGiving page looking to raise funds to help the family.

So far £390 of a £2000 target has been donated.

Father James wrote on Facebook: “It breaks my heart to post this.

“The police have just informed us that Sean McKenna has been found dead in the loch.

“We can’t thank the people who have searched and gave up their time looking for him and how the community came together as one.

“We are devastated at our loss and we have lost out youngest son.

“Hopefully he’s up in heaven looking down on us with his big, happy smile.”

Police say they are still awaiting formal identification of the body, which is believed to have been found in a loch at Drumpellier Country Park.

One donor wrote on the JustGiving page: "So very sad, got a son same age, my heart go out to all his family and friends (heart breaking) R.I.P beautiful boy xx"

Another said: "Sleep tight with the angels Sean. Thinking and praying for your family."
